Wyoming Trek
: :
What better way to cap off the first year of my MBA experience than to spend a week with my b-school friends on Jason Godley's Ranch in Banner, Wyoming?

We began our trip by flying into Billings, Montana. The 15 of us then drove two hours south to Sheridan, WY to begin our week on the ranch.

We quickly became immersed in Ranch life. We promptly went downtown to shop for the appropriate gear - cowboys hats, shirts, boots, and the most essential item - the ropes. We practiced our roping skills on a plastic bull head during the day, and drank beer by the campfire at night.

We also got a firsthand tour of Mr. Godley's Sale Barn which is a cattle auction that he runs out of Buffalo, WY.

The highlight of the trip was the castration and vaccination of the calves. The process was as you would expect. First, Jason makes his way into the calf pen where roughly 60 calves were waiting for their turn. One by one, Jason roped each calf, drug it out, and we had the job of wrestling the calf to the ground while it was vaccinated, medicated, and castrated if needed. The experience was intense.

We also took in some Sheridan, WY nightlife. The Mint Bar on main street was our favorite. It is a local watering hole that will be celebrating its 100th anniversary next year.

I learned a lot about ranch life and had a lot of fun in the process. Most importantly, now when I am asked the question "Do You Rope?" I can answer, "Yes".

You look good in leather ... can't wait to see you in Vail (June 3rd). You better wear your chaps!
