SOTM - John Denver - I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado
: :
I guess I've been feeling a little sentimental lately. Maybe it's because I feel my time in Michigan coming to a close, or maybe just because I miss the place I lived for 20 years. The opening lines to this song instantly conjure jumbled memories of the huge Colorado sky - always bright and ever resilient. The line about Boulder Canyon reminds me of the endless night time drives I took in solitude up the quiet canyon. Hopefully these things appear again somewhere in my life's future. If not, they will forever be etched in my memory.

I Guess He'd Rather Be In Colorado

John Denver - Poems, Prayers And Promises, 1971

I guess he'd rather be in Colorado.
He'd rather spend his time out where
the sky looks like a pearl after the rain.
Once again I see him walking, once again I hear him talking
to the stars he makes and asking them the bus fare.

I guess he'd rather be in Colorado.
He'd rather play his banjo
in the morning when the moon is scarcely gone.
In the dawn the subway's coming, in the dawn I hear him humming
some old song he wrote of love in Boulder Canyon.
I guess he'd rather be in Colorado.

I guess he'd rather be in Colorado.
I guess he'd rather work
out where the only thing you earn is what you spend.
In the end up in his office,
in the end a quiet cough is all he has to show,
he lives in New York City.

I guess he'd rather be in Colorado.

Nothing like a little John Denver to bring you back home.

Missing Boulder too. I need to see those Rocky Mountains!

See ya soon Braly.
